๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น 33,500 Wheels of Cheese?! My Mouthwatering Adventure in Italy

"The rolling hills of Emilia-Romagna are a paradise for food lovers."

โ€” Corrado Augi (Italian food critic)

Ciao Reader!

Imagine walking into a room filled with a delicacy fit for royalty!

On my recent trip to the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy, that's exactly what happened. But this wasn't just any delicacy โ€“ it was culatello, a prized cured meat, with a purchase tag bearing the name of Queen Elizabeth II (God rest her soul).

It was an unforgettable moment and just a glimpse of the amazing food experiences I enjoyed in this food lover's paradise region of Italy.

๐ŸŒป Verdenoce Agriturismo

Our home base in Emilia-Romagna was the stunning Verdenoce Agriturismo. Maicol, the owner, and his family treated us like royalty themselves.

Their beautiful agriturismo, decorated in a light and airy shabby chic style, was the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Each morning, we were treated to an amazing home-cooked breakfast that fueled our adventures for the day.

๐ŸŒป 4 Madonne Cheese Factory

One of our most awe-inspiring stops was the 4 Madonne Cheese Factory. Here, we witnessed the magic of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese being made from start to finish.

But the most incredible sight was the aging warehouse! Picture this: 33,500 wheels of cheese, each valued at $500, stacked three stories high! The aroma was incredible, and it was fascinating to learn about the meticulous production process.

๐ŸŒป Giuseppe Giusti "Acetaia"

Later we ventured to Modena to visit the iconic Giuseppe Giusti "acetaia", where the founding family has been making DOP Balsamic Vinegar since 1605!

The informative tour and tasting were phenomenal, and the chance to step into the room where barrels of vinegar have been aging for years was truly special. The aroma and atmosphere were unlike anything I've ever experienced.

๐ŸŒป Museum of Culatello

We completed our trip with a visit to the Museum of Culatello in Polesine Zibello. Here, we learned about the history of this unique cured meat, a refined form of prosciutto.

We saw the incredible aging room where this prized meat (the one that the Queen herself purchased!) and enjoyed a delicious lunch that included a tasting of culatello.
