Ciao Reader!
Last summer I was sad to watch two women miss their train in Lucca because they were struggling to get their oversized suitcases up the platform steps.
😰 I could see the panic on their faces as the train arrived.
My heart broke for them—they were so close, but their luggage slowed them down, and there was nothing I could do to help.
Years ago I used to overpack for my Italy trips and finally learned it isn't worth it.
Large, heavy suitcases are especially hard to maneuver for train travel, they're challenging to lug over cobblestone streets, up flights of stairs in accommodations, and in places like Venice with its many stepped bridges, or Positano with its endless stairways that hug the coastline.
These are just a few of the places that will have you regret packing so much stuff, and this is one of many mistakes I've made when traveling to Italy over the last 30 years.
✅ I just created a free guide that lists 9 of the biggest mistakes I hope you can avoid when planning your trip.
It’s packed with tips to help you avoid those “I wish I had known” moments—like overpacking, itinerary planning mistakes, and more.
